Project Overview

The show Vikings, airing on the HISTORY Channel, proved to be one of the more unique launches at San Diego’s Comic-Con in 2014. To promote their upcoming third season and garner excitement from both the media and potential fans, the HISTORY Channel needed an exciting activation for the Vikings fan base. The intention was to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at what a day on the set of Vikings would be like. It began with a sleek iPad registration where fans created their very own Vikings actor profile. After registration, users received a “special access pass” for the duration of the experience. Attendees were then ushered through four Vikings scenes: hair and makeup, a green-screen photo shoot, a high-seas battle and the village scene. By doing all four scenes, users were able to weave together a personalized 30-second Vikings trailer. Complete with custom photos, attendees also received their own movie poster (printed on-site), as well as a polished 30-second promo video (and the rights to it!) emailed to them for future viewing. Overall, the Vikings activation resulted in over 2,200 participants over four days at Comic-Con in San Diego.
